This transformative Umrah retreat is for Muslim women (18-85), including born Muslims, converts and first-time pilgrims. Yes, many scholars, including those from Al-Azhar University and the Sunni tradition, permit women to travel without a mahram under certain conditions. This view is supported by contemporary Islamic scholars and institutions such as Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, the European Fatwa Council, Dar al-Ifta of Egypt, and scholars from Al-Azhar.
The primary concern in Islamic jurisprudence regarding a woman traveling without a mahram is safety. If a woman's journey is secure, and she is accompanied by trustworthy companions, the prohibition is lifted.
Al-Azhar University has explicitly stated that, given modern advancements in travel and safety, a woman may travel without a mahram if the journey is safe and she is in the company of trustworthy individuals.
Therefore, traveling with a group of trusted women for religious purposes, such as Umrah, is permissible and has historical precedence.
